DCU did enjoy a period of dominance in Ladies Football a number of years ago, but the reality was that they hadn't seen their name on the trophy since 2011. UL on the other hand have enjoyed much more success in recent years. The main pitch in Abbotstown acted as the cauldron for the battle; and a battle it was. DCU played on the edge. As was the case in the semi final, they had a player sent to the sin bin, this time it was Aishling Moloney. UL benefitted from the frees they were awarded, especially when they had an expert free taker in the form of Eimear Scally who kicked 10 frees during the course of the game. The tempo was high for 60 mins with momentuum swinging between the two teams. Moloney's sin bin in the second half coincided with a UL purple patch driven by Fiona McHale and Louise Ward. UL were steadily gathering steam until the DCU Captain returned to the pitch and immediately made an impact as she was involved in the play that resulted in DCU being awarded a penalty. Mayo's Sarah Rowe stepped forward to convert despite UL's Caoimhe Moore getting her fingertips to it.
