PATTERN 1: COMMENCEMENT OF PLAY
What do I need to set up this exercise?
Multiple footballs and cones
What will exercise layout look like?

How do I execute this exercise?
• Using half the pitch, the midfielders and attackers
set up as normal at per start of a game or start of
half time. No defenders are required.
• The coach throws in the ball. Midfielder A, taps the
ball down to midfielder B.
• Midfielder B, kicks the ball into player C, who gathers
the ball.
• Player D times their run and collects the ball off
player C and shoots for a score.
• Players E, F, G and H act as dummy runners and
sprint as fast as they can to the cones 20m away.
• Conduct the pattern 5 times, rest, discuss and
complete again 5 more times with progressions.
Progressions:
• Conduct the pattern with no fumbling of the ball
• Assign a timeframe from time the ball is thrown in to
a score
• Rotate the players
• Conduct pattern off non-dominant side.
