NEWS & SHORTS www.ladiesgaelic.ie | AUTUMN 2019 | 5 COMPETING TEAMS: 3 2 Teams travelled to South Dublin for the 16 th Kilmacud Crokes Chill Insurance All Ireland U14 Ladies Football 7s on Saturday the 14th of September. The competition threw in at 10am in Glenalbyn, Silverpark and Naomh Olaf with eight groups of four teams in each. First and second teams in the group progressed to compete for the Championship. Teams finishing in third and fourth competed in the Plate competition. At the end of the competitive groups stages and knock out rounds St. Ergnats Moneyglass, Antrim and Kilcullen, Kildare qualified for the Cup final for the second year running and Castleblayney, Monaghan and Omagh St Enda's, Tyrone qualified for the Plate final. St. Ergnats Moneyglass came out on top in the second half, winning the Cup 6-2 to 1-5, the first team to win the Cup back to back. Castleblayney won the Plate 3-5 to 2-3. Alan McPhilips, from Chill Insurance, presented the teams with cups and medals and complimented all of the 320 players who had taken part in the Chill Insurance All Ireland U14 7s. Player of the tournament was awarded to Caoimhe Egan the no. 7 for Kilcullen, Kildare, who had impressed referees throughout the competition. The academy has been devised to develop aspiring referees aged 18 – 35 years and will be delivered over 18 months by experts in the field starting in November 2019. The academy will welcome referees from all counties to take part with the aim of two referees per county, at least one of which should be a female. The course consists of 10 contact days in each province from 2019 to 2020 which will focus on Technical, Physical, Mental and Tactical development whilst also providing practical referee experience on top of ongoing support and advice. The first day will be in Croke Park. Both national and provincial development officers will be dedicating significant resources to the academy. Each county will also nominate a point of contact to ensure that the referees are getting consistent opportunities to actively referee in their county. Participants will also be appointed a mentor from their area to provide support and guidance on their journey. Referees who progress from this programme will be invited to participate on the next stage of the pathway which is the provincial accelerate programmes to become full provincial referees before possible progression to the National panel.
