NEWS & SHORTS 4 | AUTUMN 2019 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie AUGUST: Emma Duggan (Meath) Emma, 17, from Dunboyne, was acknowledged for a number of brilliant performances in August. These performances played a significant role in guiding the Royal County to the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Final against Tipperary at Croke Park. She scored 3-2, including two pointed frees, in Meath's quarter- final victory over Wexford, before adding 1-5, including a penalty goal and two pointed frees, as Eamonn Murray's charges defeated Roscommon in the semi-finals at Nowlan Park. Regardless of the age grade she was participating at, Emma was in scintillating form for Meath throughout the year. She scored a remarkable personal haul of 3-6, including 3-3 from play, when the Royals defeated Dublin in the Leinster Minor A Championship. When Meath defeated Kildare to land the provincial title, Emma weighed in with a superb 1-10. T he Ladies Gaelic Football Association's 2019 Gaelic4Teens programme proved hugely successful with 16 clubs representing 10 counties involved. Now it is time to register your interest in the 2020 Gaelic4Teens programme. The Gaelic4Teens initiative aims to tackle the issue of player retention in the 13-17 years age bracket and has had hugely successful results assisting clubs through coach education. The programme spans eight weeks and culminates with that jam-packed day of activities in Abbotstown, as participating clubs visit the impressive venue for a series of 7-a-side games, while also picking up valuable tips and coaching expertise from our Gaelic4Teens Ambassadors who are a host of current and former LGFA stars. After completing the programme, participating clubs are armed with the knowledge and skills necessary to retain players in their late teens, and their progress will be consistently monitored throughout the following year. The closing date for applications is Friday, November 22, and for further information, contact National Development Officer William Harmon: william.harmon@lgfa.ie APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR 2020 GAELIC4TEENS PROGRAMME JULY: Grace Kelly (Mayo) After Mayo's defeat to Galway in the TG4 Connacht Final replay, Grace was superb during the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship qualifiers in July. In Mayo's first Group 4 outing against Tyrone, Grace scored 1-3, including two pointed frees, as Peter Leahy's team claimed a crucial 3-14 to 3-11 victory over the hosts at Healy Park, Omagh. The Moy Davitts player then followed that up with a haul of 0-8, including four pointed frees, in a Player-of-the-Match display against Ulster Champions Donegal in Tullamore. Those victories saw Mayo finish on top of Group 4, as the 2017 Finalists advanced to play Armagh in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Quarter-Finals. Grace was influential again as she contributed two points in a three-point victory over the Orchard County, to help Mayo through to an All Ireland semi final against Galway.
