32 // Ladies Gaelic Football Association GOURMET FOOD PARLOUR HEC DIVISION 2-6 LEAGUE FINALS PEIL Winter | Issue No 4 | Volume 14 DIVISION 2 FINAL Ulster University, Jordanstown 2-9 Mary Immaculate College 0-14 The Mackin sisters, Aimee and Blaithín, from Armagh were leading lights for UUJ as they claimed Gourmet Food Parlour Division 2 Ladies HEC silverware. After only 6 minutes UUJ were 1-02 to 0-00 clear, and could have been further in fact if it were not for some wayward shooting and good goalkeeping. Mary Immaculate captain Laura Cleary led by example throughout with some fine free-taking, and grabbed the first of her seven points in the seventh minute. Mary Immaculate scored four unanswered points in the final six minutes of the half, with Emma Dinneen, Eimear Kiely (2) and Laura Cleary on target to cut the gap to the minimum at the interval on a 1-6 to 0-8 score-line. UUJ reaffirmed their dominance with points from Aimee and Blaithín Mackin inside 70 seconds of the restart. However, Mary Immaculate College never gave up and twice brought UU's lead back to a point in the second half, but crucially couldn't get on top. DIVISION 3 FINAL Dublin Institute of Technology 3-15 St Mary's University College Belfast 1-13 A hat-trick of first half goals proved key to this DIT victory, with Westmeath's Emily Coakley; and Dublin duo Hannah Leahy and Sinead Collins all finding the net in the second quarter. This helped powered DIT to a 3-6 to 1-5 interval lead, and while the second half proved to be a more balanced affair, DIT's good work in the opening half stood to them, as they held out for a deserved eight-point win. Scores were evenly spread among the DIT attack in an excellent opening 30 minutes of football from both teams, with Orlagh Nolan (0-2); Niamh McEvoy (0-1) and Sinead Wlyde. In the second half both teams had 5 different scorers. DIT kept the scoreboard ticking over thanks to Sarah-Jane Hecker, McEvoy on frees; Sinead Wlyde, Ciara McGuigan and Leahy. For St. Mary's Niamh McGirr, Meabh McGleenan, Roisín Devlin, Anna Martin and Aislinn McFarland were kicking well, but crucially they couldn't get the goals they required.
