While they have been a regular contender
for O'Connor Cup success, the last time
UCD won a division 1 league title was in 2007. Conor
Barry however had his team well prepared for a
convincing win over rivals UL.
After only 3 minutes UCD were 1-01 to 0-00
ahead through a goal from Leitrim's Dearbhaile
Beirne and an early pointed free from
Monaghan's Caoimhe Mohan.

Eimear Scally led her team well and the sides
traded points in the opening quarter. With 15
minutes gone UL were now just a single point
behind.
Goals would prove significant in this game.
Both sides created goal opportunities for
themselves but fine saves from UCD keeper Linda
Bruggener and UL keeper Caoimhe Moore ensured
that both sets of forwards had to be at their very
best to find the net. It was in the closing stages of
the first half that goal hungry UCD finally found a
breakthrough when Westmeath's Lucy McCartan hit
a cracker of a shot from 30 meters. At half time UCD
were 2-07 to 0-07 up.
