In fact, both teams had to survive tough semi finals to earn their spot in the decider. Claregalway were up against the tough Shane O'Neills (Armagh) who despite the final score line made Claregalway work for every score they got. Moycullen on the other hand managed to stay in touch with Templeport (Cavan) during normal time of their semi final. Templeport managed to score 6 goals normal time to demand extra time. Moycullen were the stronger in extra time however, scoring a further 2 -5 to Templeport's 1-06. Final score Moycullen 5-15 , Templeport 7-07 AET The final saw two teams battling hard but ultimately Claregalway were the better team with the final score Moycullen 2 -05, Claregalway 3-12 SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP The Senior Championship was the highlight of the day. When it came down to the last four teams it was clear that there would be nothing between them. All teams have experience playing towards the end of the day in the All Ireland 7s Competition. Excitement was also building around the potential of The Banner retaining their title. Against Milltown (Westmeath) the Banner (Clare) just about made it through, winning by the smallest margin 6-05 to 5-07. Two Monaghan kingpins met in the other semi final. Not only have they had plenty of encounters in their own County but this pairing have contested the Senior Final in previous years. This year it was Emyvale's turn to dominate as they won 3-09 to 2-06. The final was poised to be a cracker, both teams having pacey players with huge skill levels. Control of the game ebbed and flowed but the Banner retained their title due to their ability to hit the net when it mattered.
