ladiesgaelic.ie // 45 LGFA INTERFIRMS COMPETITION Volume 14 | Issue No 2 | PEIL Summer 017 saw the first LGFA Interfirms competition. The success of year one and subsequent enthusiasm resulted in changes to the 2018 structure. Dividing the event into a two tiered structure of a competitive competition and recreational blitz allowed for all companies interested to participate at the appropriate level. Seven companies entered into the competitive competition; Glanbia, An Garda Síochána, AIB, Dublin, Mergon International, St Kevins CC, Dunlavin Co. Wicklow, Irish Prison Service and Waterford Hospital. AIB Dublin were the inaugaral champions in 2017 and returned with the intent of defending their title. AIB were right to be ambitious considering the calibre of player they had at their disposal. Cork's 8 time All Ireland winner Annie Walsh described how playing for AIB allowed here to meet different people from within her organisation. She also admitted that while it was definitely a bit of craic it was still competitive when it came to crunch matches with some of their opponents also being high level intercounty players. When it came to the 2018 competition the final was a repeat of the 2017 final. AIB went head to head with An Garda Síochána and Limerick legend Dymphna O'Brien was, as we have seen many time before, a match winner with a stunning goal to secure back to back titles for AIB. AIB claimed the title with a 2-04 to 2-02 scoreline. After the final Dymphna reflected on the competition: "I got the chance to play with a group of girls I'd never have got the chance to play with otherwise, including Cork's Annie Walsh, who has eight All-Ireland senior medals. "It's a great way to build relationships within the organisation that you're working for, and to build up a network. "It was a really enjoyable day for us and good fun. In the Shield Decider, University Hospital Waterford ran out winners against the Irish Prison Service. The following 9 teams took part in the recreational blitz: Glanbia, Boston Scientific (Clonmel), Baker McKenzie, Pramerica (Donegal (x 2)), Cadet School (Irish Defence Forces), Irish Prison Service, Pallas Food, Baxter Healthcare (Mayo).
