58 // Ladies Gaelic Football Association REFEREE EDUCATION & PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS PEIL Spring | Issue No 1 | Volume 14 he LGFA teamed up with Performa Sports to deliver a 'Coaching with Performance Analysis' workshop which was open to all inter county mentors on Sunday 7 th January in Croke Park. 81 participants attended from 17 counties on what was a very interactive and educational day. Joe Turley from Performa Sports delivered a workshop discussing the benefits of performance analysis for teams and individual players and most importantly what a coach should be looking for. Coaches received a practical demonstration of how one of the online systems worked but it was stressed that performance analysis can be done with a simple pen and paper. The method is not the most important aspect but rather the coach's understanding of the information and how to communicate it e"ectively with players. Tyrone manager Gerry Moane and Waterford manager Pat Sullivan shared their experiences of using performance analysis and the benefits they feel this brings to the team. This is an area that many mentors are now utilising and it was important for LGFA to provide education on this topic and it was a day enjoyed by all attendees. National Referees Get Involved in Education Programme aturday 20 th January was a very important day for LGFA as we took our first step in getting a number of our national referees involved in tutoring our referee courses around the country. Ten referees attended a tutor training course delivered by National Development Manager, Lyn Savage, and they were upskilled to assist current LGFA referee education tutors to deliver annual Level 2 refresher courses in countries across Ireland. The referees involved were Barry Redmond, Brendan Rice, Colm McManus, John Gallagher, Keith Delahunty, Gerry Carmody, Maggie Farrelly, Mel Kenny, Paul Burke and Stephen McNulty. The day was focused around adult learning principles and recommended methods of delivery for referee education. It was a hugely informative day and the referees above have been attending various referee courses since January to pass on their knowledge and experience. The day culminated with the addition of existing referee education tutors attending for a full discussion on the rules and clarification of delivery to ensure consistency in what is being delivered across the country. We welcome our new tutors on board and their knowledge will add to the education programme being provided. S County Mentors Gather for 'Performance Analysis' T
