ladiesgaelic.ie // 23 THE BIG INTERVIEW Volume 14 | Issue No 1 | PEIL Spring other counties and almost living out of one another's pockets, it's hard bet. From an organisational point of view, there were some hurdles to cross before a ball was even kicked. The aftermath of Storm Emma and the Beast from the East was evident as the crowds landed to both venues, with snow to be cleared as the gates swung open. The tireless work behind the scenes didn't go unnoticed, along with the e"orts and enthusiasm of the sponsors, Gourmet Food Parlour. A quick word to how excellent it is that such a superb competition has found a sponsor. Lorraine Heskin and Shirley Byrne sat beside me in the stand for the O'Connor Cup final and their delight to be there and pride in sponsoring was clear as they discussed the high standard of the game and valiant e"orts of the players. As I sat and pieced my match report together, I couldn't help but feel some jealousy towards those donning their college jersey as they vied for some of the most prestigious ladies football silverware in the country. I played for DCU myself and some of my fondest memories from college were made on the pitch with my teammates (often in Coppers on the night out which followed!) Jealousy aside, I was obviously delighted to see some of my closest friends win on the day, but also, to see them comfort players on the losing side. That's what it's all about. A weekend of highs and lows, ups and downs, huge performances and competitive football. One which did not disappoint, and one which capped another successful campaign of college football. Éabha Rutlege of DCU in action against Lucy McCartan of UCD
