MA in Criminology
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will normally hold a minimum of an honours
degree (level 8) of second class (2.2) or higher in the
area of social science, law, sociology, psychology or
cognate discipline.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum academic
requirements, but who have substantial professional or
vocational experience in the criminal justice system shall
also be considered.
MA PROGRAMME CONTENT AND STRUCTURE
The MA is a one year full-time or two-year part time
programme consisting of 90 credits in the European Credit
Transfer System (ECTS). Students will complete three core
modules, two optional modules and a dissertation. Students
research and write a dissertation on a subject of their
choice with the support of a supervisor.
SPECIALISED OPTIONAL MODULES
Criminal Law; Policing, Crime Prevention and the
Governance of Security; Youth Offending & Youth Justice
Perspectives; Victimology; Routes out of Crime Desistance;
Criminal Psychology; Prison Policy; Prison Law.
NB: Optional modules offered will vary from year to
year depending upon viable cohorts & staff resources
being available. Criminal Law module runs across
semesters 1 & 2 in DIT Aungier Street.
