Set up of groups. • Divide the coaches into small groups. • This can be achieved in many ways and depends on who is present and numbers. Please note, it is important sufficient materials i.e., flipchart paper and markers are available to cater for all the groups. The groups should consist of no more than 5 coaches per group to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to be involved in the conversations. • Groups can be divided up as follows: ( Per age group ( Nursery coaches together, U12-U16 coaches together and U17-Adult Coaches together ( Per code ( Mix and match. 4. Measure improvement – main item on the agenda. • Ask the groups to discuss the following and to log the feedback on the flipchart provided following each segment. QUESTION 1 What did we do well from a coaching perspective in our club this year? QUESTION 2 What do you think we can improve on from a coaching perspective? QUESTION 3 Based on our previous discussions, next year, what do you think we need to do? • Allow groups to discuss each topic for an allocated timeframe and log their feedback on the flipcharts provided. The group spokesperson provides a summary of their discussion during the debrief. 5. Tips and tricks to keep the meeting efficient. • Invite members of the club executive to the meeting to listen in or get involved in the discussion. It is important the club leadership is visible on nights like this. The meeting should be no longer than 90 minutes in duration. • Ask each group to assign a scriber and a spokesperson. • To keep the meeting efficient, apply time to each interaction. (Example - 10 minutes group discussion on a topic and 10 minutes debrief. • Ask scribers to log any item that comes up in the discussion on their flipchart, it ensures all conversations are captured. • If coaches come up with a coaching problem or issue, always ask for a solution. • Following the meeting: • Write up the notes from the meeting and distribute them to all coaches in the club. • Report back to the club executive on the main discussion points, identify actions and support where required for the following season. 48 | AUTUMN 2023 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie End of Year Coaching Review for the Club Coaching Officer As the club season is coming to an end, now is the perfect time for club coaching officers to conduct a review with club coaches in your club. See below a few ideas on how this review meeting could be organised and conducted 1. Build a relationship with the group on the night. • Book a large room that is heated and warm. Have some light refreshments available i.e., Tea/Coffee and biscuits on arrival. • If you have a music box, play some music in the background as people arrive. • Welcome all the coaches as they arrive and provide them with a name badge. ( Don't assume everyone knows each other! 2. Create the learning environment. • Place the pre-flipchart paper on the wall. • Place markers beside the flipchart paper. • Chairs laid out in circle at the beginning. • Welcome participants and outline the agenda. • Sample agenda. • Welcome. • Discussion form. • What did we do well as a coaching group? • What can we improve on as a coaching group? • Next year, we will… • Closing comments and thank everyone for their effort during the year.
