A: I am a player and also referee underage games. Q: What skills do you hope to learn and develop through the BUA Programme? A: I believe that this opportunity will allow me to reflect on areas in which I may be lacking mostly relating to self-criticism and dealing with problems that I face as an athlete. Often young girls like me experience feelings of inadequacy when playing in a male dominated sport such as Gaelic. I believe that this programme will therefore allow me to develop more resilience which will combat any feelings of doubt that I may have to confront. Q: Why did you want to get involved in the BUA Programme? A: The BUA programme, for me, is an opportunity to further explore the world of the LGFA which has played a major part in my life from a very young age. I also believe it will allow me to present and apply my leadership skills in a new and exciting way. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that at times in the past and unfortunately in the present, there has been a severe lack of representation of women in Gaelic Games. Therefore, by being involved in this programme I feel that my presence will perhaps give voice to younger girls within the LGFA and exemplify the skills I have gained from being an active member of LGFA such as communication skills and teamwork. Ultimately, I would love to be involved to simply have a positive impact for the future of the LGFA. Connacht Name: Leah Curran Club: St. James, Co. Galway. Q: What is your current involvement in Ladies Football? A: I am a goalkeeper for the St. James' Minor, Junior, and Intermediate teams, as well as a trainer for the Underage Academy. I volunteer whenever I can in the club when it comes to both social and sports settings. Q: What skills do you hope to learn and develop through the BUA Programme? A: I wish to improve my interpersonal, leadership and communication skills further, to become a leading position to guide my team and support them in any situation I possibly can, as well as to explore and dedicate myself more to Ladies Gaelic Football. Q: Why did you want to get involved in the BUA Programme? A: I want to be involved with this Programme as I want to learn more about the factors of leadership, to become more aware and informed when making decisions, to improve relationships with and between teammates and to assist them in any problems they face. Leinster Name: Keelin Barron Club: Rathgarogue Cushionstown, Co. Wexford. Q: What is your current involvement in Ladies Football? A: I am player in my club. This year for under 16, I was the captain. I also play minor. Q: What skills do you hope to learn and develop through the BUA Programme? A: I want to learn skills to help me improve in my leadership skills so I can help other girls learn and enjoy football. I want to learn to be able to encourage players and help with their confidence and I would like to learn to have more confidence while speaking Q: Why did you want to get involved in the BUA Programme? A: I wanted to be involved in the BUA programme because I want to learn leadership skills and to develop my confidence. I want to help girls to love sport and to enjoy it because sometimes when girls become teenagers they start to not enjoy sport as much maybe because they have low confidence in their ability, I want to change this, I want to learn leadership skills so I can help them improve so they can be confident in their ability that they know they can do it if they try. Munster Name: Doireann Dwyer Club: Kilcummin, Co. Kerry Q: What is your current involvement in Ladies Football? A: I am a player with the u16, minor and senior ladies team. I have helped out with fundraising activities, and I have helped out with coaching the u8s. Q: What skills do you hope to learn and develop through the BUA Programme? A: I would like to improve my leadership skills, my ability to communicate with people of all ages, my organisational skills and taking on more responsibility. Q: Why did you want to get involved in the BUA Programme? A: The programme itself sounds excellent. It is well structured and covers lots of interesting areas. I am in TY this year, so I have the time to devote to the programme. The LGFA has been a huge part of my life since I was very young. I have gotten so much out of being involved in ladies' football and I would like the opportunity to give something back to my club through this programme. THE LGFA BUA PROGRAMME RETURNS FOR ANOTHER INSTALMENT THIS AUTUMN, WITH A GROUP OF YOUNG FEMALES WHO WILL BE INVOLVED IN THE PROGRAMME FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS. WE CAUGHT UP WITH ONE PARTICIPANT FROM EACH PROVINCE TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IN THIS YEAR'S PROGRAMME.
