NEWS & SHORTS 8 | AUTUMN 2023 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie LGFA announces participants in third 'BUA' Leadership and life-skills programme The 30 young women selected to take part in the third 'BUA' Leadership and Life-skills programme come from all four provinces and two from Scotland! 'BUA – Believe Unlock Potential Achieve' is a self-development initiative aimed at developing the leadership skills of young people within the Ladies Gaelic Association, which, in turn, will benefit their local communities. Aimed at females aged 16-19 years of age, 'BUA' will be conducted through expert-led workshops and self- reflection, before participants put their enhanced leadership skills into practice through a club action project. Selected participants will receive support as they cover topics essential for young people, including: • Resilience • Dealing with change • Building trust and respect • Conflict resolution • Problem solving • Project planning and delegation In addition, LGFA-specific topics including introductions to coaching, officiating and administration will be covered. Improving my coaching ability by learning from experts in specific fields and from other coaches' experiences. To gain more up to date information about how coaching is evolving and maybe to better understand what is ultimately required from a 'coach'. Describe your experience to date with the mentorship programme. It has been an extremely positive experience. The course is really well run with excellent expert speakers giving great insight into various aspects of coaching. The group itself is very enthusiastic and eager to learn and implement any new techniques. The group also brings great variety in terms of coaching backgrounds. What has been the most beneficial aspect of the mentorship programme? There has not been a part of the course that I haven't found beneficial. The speakers are extremely informative and specific. I find the group days where we get to interact with fellow participants and discuss the practicalities of everything to be very beneficial. What aspect of the mentorship programme have you applied to your own coaching practice? My ability to self-reflect on my own coaching practice. As a result of the mentorship programme what changes have you made to your coaching practice? I have probably made a variety of small changes in how I do things in terms of; feedback/input during a session, planning and running game specific sessions and self- reflection. Would you encourage others to participate in the mentorship programme? Definitely, I have found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable learning experience.
