SAQ equipment, multiple footballs, cones, and small goals Note: If you don't have SAQ equipment, cones will work just as effectively for the various exercises. What will exercise layout look like? See illustration below How do I execute this exercise? • Set up grid as per the diagram. The area for the 2v2 section is applicable to stage of development of your players. Place two goalkeepers in each goal in the grid or you can keep free. • Divide group into two teams. Players from Team A are placed behind cones A and E, players from Team B are placed behind cones C and G. • On the coach's whistle, one player from each cone must manoeuvre through ladders and hurdles before they are permitted to enter the 2v2 grid. For example, Player A manoeuvres through the ladders and hurdles and runs to cone B before going directly into the 2v2 grid. Same applies to players on cones C, E and G. • First player to reach the grid receives a ball from the coach who is located outside the 2v2 grid. • Players must wait until their teammates enter the grid before they can score. Each pair must complete a set number of passes as directed by the coach (hand passes or kick passes) before going for a goal on either side of the grid. Progressions: • SAQ exercises can be varied. • When players reach grid, they play 2v2 for an allocated time with the coach feeding footballs after each attempt on goal.
