www.ladiesgaelic.ie | SUMMER 2023 | 21 Innovative new rules introduced such as time on the ball and advanced restarts will add fun and opportunity to the playing experiences of all of our players. Minimum and maximum playing numbers allow for clubs to tailor each event or blitz to meet their own needs and ensure that every player is experiencing play at all times. All blitzes must now contain no less than three clubs thus eliminating 1 V 1 "matches" offsetting the competitive inclinations of some overly enthusiastic parents, coaches, and parents. The blitz format will contribute more to providing a festival of football feel to each get together. This will ensure that each child has a positive experience of simply being allowed to play and develop without the pressure of performing. Clubs will now get the opportunity to play with and encounter clubs of other sizes and means with so-called X number of team groups being confined to the past. All blitzes outside of the county games programme must be applied for using the Gaelic Games GO GAMES "CHILDRENS SPORTS IS NOT MERELY SPORTS FOR SMALL OR MINI ADULTS AND SHOULD NOT BE TREATED OR VIEWED AS SUCH. CHILDRENS SPORTS SHOULD BE TAILORED TO MEET THEIR PLAY, DEVELOPMENTAL, AND SOCIAL NEEDS. GO GAMES HAS DONE THIS ACROSS ALL OF GAELIC GAMES SINCE ITS INCEPTION. Activity approval form contained in the information page on https://ladiesgaelic.ie/learn/go-games/ Self-paced online learning modules for coaches, parents, and spectators as well as new referees will be available for all involved in Go Games to offer them the opportunity to upskill in the rules and regulations of the non-competitive, developmental, strand of Gaelic Games. Childrens sports is not merely sports for small or mini adults and should not be treated or viewed as such. Childrens sports should be tailored to meet their play, developmental, and social needs. Go Games has done this across all of Gaelic Games since its inception. However, as award winning author Michelle Sandlin said "complacency is the death of innovation". We must continue to innovate and evolve our games to meet the needs of all of our youngest players whilst being aware of the limitations of what can be done in a voluntary setting with, at times, limited space and resources. Go Games is a developmental play centered environment that will act as a conduit between nursery to competitive formats in later years. It is where players will develop skills but also a love of playing Ladies Football in safe, supportive environments. The key pillar to success is full participation reinforcing what Go games has proclaimed from its inception… EVERY CHILD GETS A GO!!
