NEWS & SHORTS 10 | AUTUMN 2022 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie THE CROKE PARK/LGFA PLAYERS OF THE MONTH July 2022: Niamh O'Sullivan (Meath) The 32-year-old Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels player produced a blistering performance in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Final victory over Kerry, posting 1-2 in a Player of the Match display. O'Sullivan, a former county team captain, has been a mainstay in the Meath Senior colours since making her inter-county debut in 2008. One of the most selfless performers on the Meath team, O'Sullivan is also more than capable of taking vital scores herself. Niamh's goal midway through the second half of the Final victory over Kerry was a pivotal score, and Meath pushed for home thereafter. Niamh also scored a crucial point in the semi-final victory over Donegal. Niamh was presented with her award by Ina Lazar, Sales Manager, The Croke Park. LAOIS were celebrating on the double when county stars Eimear Barry and Mo Nerney claimed both ZuCar performance awards following the 2022 TG4 All-Ireland Championships. Goalkeeper Eimear has been confirmed as the winner of the Golden Glove award, introduced in 2021 to acknowledge goalkeeping excellence during the TG4 All-Ireland Championships. Eimear's crucial second half save against Wexford went a long way towards securing the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate title for the O'Moore County. Eimear's save to deny Wexford forward Aisling Murphy won the popular vote on the Ladies Gaelic Football Association website, with four other goalkeepers also nominated. Eimear was one of five nominees for the prestigious individual honour, along with Armagh's Anna Carr, Nicole Hanley from Carlow, Mayo netminder Aisling Tarpey, and Meath's TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship winner Monica McGuirk. TOP SCORER Following the conclusion of the TG4 All-Ireland Championships, Mo Nerney was the leading scorer across the Junior, Intermediate and Senior grades. Mo's tally of 5-31 (46 points) was good enough to hold off the challenge of Fermanagh sharpshooter Eimear Smyth, who finished with 5-27 (42 points). August 2022: Cathy Carey(Antrim) The 32-year-old St Ergnat's, Moneyglass, player produced a superb performance in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship Final replay against Fermanagh. Carey scored 2-1, including a goal in each half (the first a penalty), in a player of the match performance, as Antrim claimed a first TG4 All-Ireland Junior title in ten years. Beaten finalists in 2021, Antrim went one step further this year and Carey also had the honour of lifting the silverware as team captain. Cathy was presented with her award by Edele O'Reilly, Sales and Marketing Manager, The Croke Park. ZuCar Golden Glove & Golden Boot
