www.ladiesgaelic.ie | AUTUMN 2022 | 49 www.ladiesgaelic.ie | AUTUMN 2022 | 49 Lidl One Good Club™ 2022 ran for 10 weeks earlier this year between May and July. A club from each of the 26 counties took part, while the mirrored LGFA TALK Project took place in a club in each of Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone. St Mark's from Tallaght in Dublin claimed the top honours this year in the 'Best Overall Programme Engagement' award. Kilkenny's Railyard Ladies Gaelic Football Club received the 'Most Innovative Initiative' award and Leitrim's Drumahoe Ladies Gaelic Football Club won the 'Strongest Community Involvement' award. The aims of Lidl One Good Club™ are to: • Increase awareness of mental health across the LGFA community. • Increase club knowledge on how to promote youth mental health through the '5-a-day for Mental Health' framework. • Enable clubs to respond more effectively to the mental health needs of members. • Increase awareness of local Jigsaw services. • Build improved links with local communities. • Create an improved culture around mental health in clubs. The '5-a-day for your Mental Health' is the structure used for Lidl One Good Club™. The activities undertaken were the '5-A-Day' themes, which are Connect, Give, Take Notice, Keep Learning, and Get Active. All activities were coordinated by a local coordinator or committee in each club. As part of the evaluation, each club was asked to complete a survey before starting the initiative, and again after it had finished. Here are the findings: Lidl One Good Club™ Evaluation • Increase awareness of mental health The evaluation indicated increased levels of awareness and confidence regarding promoting mental health within clubs. The proportion of respondents who agreed with the statement: "I am aware of ways our club can promote youth mental health" increased from 75% before the initiative, to 100% after the initiative. By the end of the programme, 95% of clubs reported thinking their club promoted mental health 'well' or 'very well'. • Increase awareness of the '5-a-day for Mental Health' framework Before the programme, 85% of respondents agreed with the statement: "I have a good understanding of the '5-a-day for Mental Health' framework. By the post-programme survey, 100% agreed. • Increase awareness of Jigsaw Awareness of Jigsaw prior to the programme was high, with 85% reporting they were aware of support services offered. This figure increased to 95% by the end of the programme. • Build improved links with local communities Lidl One Good Club™ appears to have been successful in promoting collaboration within communities. 86% of respondents reported having worked with other organisations in the community such as Tidy Towns groups, local schools, Gardaí, charities and businesses with activities during the initiative. • Creating an improved culture around mental health in clubs. Club coordinators also had the opportunity to feed back their experiences of the programme. All respondents (100%) believed that club members enjoyed being part of Lidl One Good Club™, with many referencing the teamwork, enthusiasm, and engagement they had seen in those who had been involved. Some of the longer-term benefits highlighted were building connections within the community and improved mental health knowledge and skills in the club.
