www.ladiesgaelic.ie | AUTUMN 2022 | 21 SPORTS DIRECT GAELIC4MOTHERS & OTHERS As the balls were finally thrown in and all modes of dance had been utilised, the fun really began. The skills and camaraderie, both between teammates, and indeed, players from other clubs, solidified the reality that everyone was there for the fun but also to convey this is #MYREASONWHY I take part in the Sports Direct Gaelic4Mothers&Others programme. It is true to say that it bucketed. There were buckets upon buckets of fun. The silent disco was a smash hit with teams strutting their stuff in a carefree and positivity fostering environment. Teamwork, physical activity, and smiles were on offer by the bucket load and memories were made forever. This was the first year of the National blitz since 2019 and the day featured over 50 new clubs that had been formed either during or post height of the pandemic. It was a refreshing sight these new clubs experiencing the magic of the national blitz for the first time and no doubt they'll be back at provincial and national blitzes in years to come. Throughout the day, from first throw into the last kick, memories were made and no doubt each team, participant, coach, and official went home with a memory bank saturated with happiness and fond recollections of a day of friendship, bonds built, and, most importantly, fun. As the teams hung up their gloves and boots, they retired to their respective clubs for some light refreshments and some more physical activity in the way of song and dance long into the night. Once again, after its two-year break, the National blitz sponsored by Sports Direct proved that people can come together with a common goal, common purpose and play as if no one is watching. And to sum up the day… a downpour of happiness, buckets of enthusiasm and saturated in fun.
