Report & Stats MATCH 52 | AUTUMN 2022 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie Name: Jonathan Murphy County: Carlow You recently attended the inaugural Canadian Championships, what was it like to be involved? I was very honoured to be asked to referee at the Canada Games. I've made great friends and memories which wouldn't have happened unless I was involved. How did you feel when you were first contacted to attend the games? I felt privileged to be invited to referee at the very first Canadian Games. I can look back in 20 years, when it will have gotten bigger and better, knowing that I was involved in the very first one. How much did it mean to the teams there to have these first Canadian Championships? All teams across Canada, whether it was Toronto or Vancouver, put a huge effort into the organising and planning of these Games and, in my opinion, it went like clockwork which is a credit to Sean Harte and the Canadian Board Committee. If there was one memory that will stand out from the games, what will it be? I've been lucky enough to travel to a few different countries with the LGFA but I have never been involved in Games where all teams have been very complimentary on the excellent refereeing across all codes. It has made the experience even more memorable. Name: Siobhán Coyle County: Donegal You recently attended the inaugural Canadian Championships, what was it like to be involved? It was an absolute honour for me to attend the inaugural Canadian Championships on behalf of the LGFA. The competitions were extremely well organised, and the games were very competitive and great to be part of. The host committee were amazing, and the hospitality shown to us was second to none. How did you feel when you were first contacted to attend the games? I was surprised but delighted when I received the email back at the beginning of July to attend the games. How much did it mean to the teams there to have these first Canadian Championships? Talking to the many players from many parts of Canada, it meant so much to them to have their own championship. They train and play together and relished the opportunity to play for their own championship. Focus REFEREE Referees Take a Trip to Inaugural Canadian National Championships It was an exciting first weekend in September for Canada GAA as they hosted their inaugural National Championships in Toronto. Two of our national referees travelled to officiate at the games and we hear from them here. 52 | AUTUMN 2022 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie
