www.ladiesgaelic.ie | SUMMER 2022 | 39 RÓISÍN AMBROSE Q&A R óisín Ambrose was captain of the Limerick team that lost out to Fermanagh in last Sunday's TG4 All- Ireland Junior Championship semi-final. Looking ahead to the Final between Fermanagh and Antrim, Róisín runs the rule over the two Ulster counties, as they prepare to battle it out for glory at Croke Park on Sunday July 31. Q: Hi, Róisín, and thanks for chatting to us. How have you been since last Sunday's game? A: No problem at all! I am obviously still gutted about losing the semi-final against Fermanagh. Looking back on it, I think we were very unlucky with the result but we came up against a super Fermanagh side. We hit the crossbar a number of times throughout the game. Fermanagh were able to execute those shots and that was probably the difference between the teams on the day. Q: Where do you see the Final being won and lost? A: Fermanagh and Antrim play a very similar style of football. Both are very direct with their play. Croke Park is a huge pitch. I think the team that uses the pitch size to its advantage the most will be the victorious team. Q: Who are the key players that we should be looking out for on both sides? A: In my opinion, Antrim's key players are Saoirse Tennyson and Cathy Carey. Saoirse leads the team from defence and Cathy, captain of the team, has outrageous accuracy in front of goal. Looking at Fermanagh, Eimear Smyth and Blaithin Bogue are definitely the danger players. Both are extremely talented footballers. Q: Will you watch the Final or would you find it too difficult? A: Absolutely, I'll watch the Final for sure. Antrim and Fermanagh have a great rivalry. It is destined to be a cracker of a game. I am interested to see how the two sides will set up against each other. It will be difficult to watch but that's the joy of sport. Q: Finally, sum up how you see the game going, and predict a winner? A: If both teams get their match-ups right, I see the game being very close and competitive. It is hard to call a winner!! Personally, from playing both sides in this year's Championship, I think Fermanagh's class will be hard to compete with. So, Fermanagh it is. It's All Ireland Final Day though, anything can happen! TG4 ALL- IRELAND JUNIOR FINAL PREVIEW Q: Looking ahead to the Final, how do you rate the chances of Fermanagh? A: I think Fermanagh are a brilliant side. They're extremely organised, great in defence, brilliant midfielders to carry the ball and sharp-shooters in the forwards. I think if Fermanagh play with the intensity they had in the semi- final, they will be a very hard side to beat. Q: Antrim competed in last year's Final and look like a team on a real mission. How do you assess their chances? A: Antrim are also in flying form this year. It is great to see that the have bounced back after last year's defeat against Wicklow. I think the experience of playing in Croke Park will stand to the Antrim girls in this year's Final.
