www.ladiesgaelic.ie | SPRING 2022 | 47 GUESS WHAT I DO AOIFE LENNON Tell me about your job: Basically life coaching is helping people overcome self-limiting beliefs, helping them with career or life goals or ambitions that they want. Life coaching is all about the present future so it is looking into the future of what you can achieve. Sometimes we often don't go for these things in life because we are held back by a self-limiting belief or a fear from the past. So my whole approach is to look at things holistically, so to look at a person at a whole level, to try and create balance, lifestyle challenges and a more peace and happiness. It's more of a balance. If I truly believe there is one part of your life out of balance, and perhaps having an impact on all of your life. It all depends on what the person comes with. But on a whole, my approach is very much and strictly looking at the person and how can we create a whole lifestyle change, connecting them back to who they truly are and reaching their whole potential. How did you get into your job? When lockdown came, I had never really found a job where this is where I love what I do. I was just working in jobs. When lockdown came, it was really a time for me to sit down and self-reflect. I got into a lot of self-development. I always had that because I've been on a journey in life. I always tried to just better myself with football, sport. I lost my dad so I have been really interested in trauma and the mind for so long. I knew at some stage that was going to be my career. In lockdown, I sat down and I was just listening to a podcast one day and I heard them talking about life coaching. It was the one moment in my life where it sparked and I was like 'oh my God, that sounds so interesting, I'd love to do it.' I couldn't stop thinking about it so I knew at that stage it was something that was staying in my heart. I just got in touch with a few people and the more I heard about it, I thought this what I want to do. From there, I just did the course and that's been it. Where are you based with your job? I'm just based at home at the minute, on Zoom. Just work from Zoom at the minute because I've only really started in this past eight months so I'm just getting myself and on my feet. My business is called The Evolution. I think that we're all brought into this world to evolve and grow into who we truly are. Somewhere along the way we grow enough. We start to believe in how things are, we start to pick up on past lives that then create a story that we run. And so often it's a belief system that's negative that is running it. I just think that my whole philosophy is to help people evolve, help people shine a light and grow and transform into who they really are. What are the best things about your job? I think the best thing is that people don't realise that life coaching, it all comes from the person. It's an inward journey and it's just through questioning my techniques and listening. I pull the answers out of the person. It's seeing the rewards and people reaching their full potential. I have so much passion in wanting to help people and sitting back and allowing them to grow and see the journey that they go on is the most rewarding thing because they actually are doing all the work, and I'm just guiding them along the path. Would you recommend it to budding footballers? Absolutely because I think there is so much pressure now in society on performance. Outside of football, there can be something happening you and if you don't feel comfortable in yourself or you need somebody to talk to. It starts with a conversation and from there then it opens up. So often you think that might be the issue but then when you start to talk and you get to the root cause, it's actually not only that. I think the most important thing is that we all need to talk and that we all need some help along the way. Life coaching is about what can I achieve now, setting new goals, setting new ambitions. It's allowing you to look forward to constantly wanting to be the best version of you. This image: 2016; Aoife Lennon, Armagh.
