Player analysis
In last year's All-Ireland Final,
two Meath players were pivotal to
their success; Emma Duggan and
Vikki Wall. Both players ended the
game with 21 and 22 possessions
respectively, with Wall being
fouled 7 times out her 22 carries
and Duggan scoring one of the
more memorable All-Ireland Final
goals in recent years. Fast forward
to the Lidl NFL Final and the
stats tell a very different picture.
Vikki Wall was closely marked
all game and her total number
of possessions in the game was
reduced to 15, with zero fouls
given by Donegal while she was
in possession. She did however,
she did manage to get on the
scoreboard with a powerful run
and shot in the second half.
Emma Duggan, on the other
hand, had the same number of
possessions as in the All-Ireland
Final at 21 and also managed
two scores (0-1f) but her main
involvements in the game
came from handpasses which
maintained Meath's possession
when Donegal had their full
defensive system in place. Instead,
the stars of Meath's performance
in 2022 came from
other members of the
panel, such as Niamh
O'Sullivan and Kelsey
Nesbitt, as they
showed that
success comes
from a strong team
and not just individual
talent.
