COACHING CARD Kicking at Posts A C D B ACTIVITY 1: What do I need to set up this exercise? Multiple footballs and cones What will exercise layout look like? See below How do I execute this exercise? • Layout the activity on either side of the goals. It is important this activity has the required number of footballs for flow purposes. • Distance between cones and from goals are dependent on age/ability of the group you are coaching • The activity commences with players at cone A. The player runs (take four steps), bounce and solos the ball until they reach cone B. When the player reaches cone B, they perform a 180 degree turn and offloads (handpass) the ball to the player coming from cone C. This player kicks for a score. • The next player at cone A performs the same activity i.e., runs, (takes for steps), bounce and solos the ball until they reach cone B. Once this occasion, player from cone D runs towards the players coming from A and at the right time performs a 'backdoor cut' (stop and turn). The player coming from cone A handpasses the ball over the head of the player who performs the 'backdoor cut'. This player collects the ball on the run and shoots for a goal or handpasses the ball over the bar. • This sequence continues i.e., player A gives the ball to player C on the loop and next time player A gives the ball to player coming from cone D who performs a 'backdoor cut' movement. • There is no definite sequence to where players go after each activity. This is mainly because forwards may position themselves at cone C and D while mainly midfielders and defenders will position themselves at cone A. • Same activity is performed on other side of the goals if you have large numbers.
