34 | SPRING 2022 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie INTERVIEW W exford looked the team to beat in this year's Lidl National Football League Division 3 final. Having reached the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate decider in 2021 before losing, they were likely to set the record straight. But Roscommon had their own point to prove and with the pressure off, Fiona Tully and her teammates in Primrose and Blue shone brightest at St Brendan's Park in Birr on 3 April. Tully's sister Siobhán had soldiered through the tough times and near misses with the Rossies, and there were plenty in recent years. But fresh off her Underdogs journey, Fiona Tully came into the squad and helped them secure silverware under new manager Ollie Lennon. "It is brilliant because we had set out at the start that we wanted to get up to Division 2," said Tully. "This is my first year in with them. So it was my first year playing in the League with the county. "They have been trying to get up in the last few years and have been getting knocked out in the semi-finals. To be honest, winning it was really nice for the girls that have been there for the last few years trying to get up there, and finally getting over the line. "And especially for the management as well. They live and die football. Every single day of their lives, all they think about is us and they always want the best for us. It's brilliant just for them because they are so nice." Tully, who is also a World Champion handballer, has worked closely with Lennon in recent years where she was captain and he managed her native Kilbride. It was a strong relationship that created success and now they are reaping rewards at inter-county level too. And the 23-year-old is delighted to be linking up with Lennon again.
