NEWS & SHORTS www.ladiesgaelic.ie | WINTER 2021 | 7 F ollowing the conclusion of the provincial club championships before Christmas, thoughts now turn to the 2021 currentaccount.ie All-Ireland club championships in the New Year. In the Senior grade, holders Mourneabbey from Cork are aiming for a third successive crown, following victories in 2018 and 2019, and they'll meet Leinster champions Dunboyne of Meath, spearheaded by Vikki Wall and Emma Duggan, in the last four. Dunboyne defeated Dublin's Foxrock-Cabinteely in the Leinster Final to win the provincial title for the very first time – and they're now preparing for a maiden appearance in the All-Ireland series. Mourneabbey will have home advantage for that one on the weekend of January 15/16, while Kilkerrin-Clonberne, the Connacht champions and 2019 All-Ireland Finalists, are at home to Donaghmoyne on the same weekend. Donaghmoyne from Monaghan are the five-time winners who last appeared in an All-Ireland Final when they won it back in 2016. These are two fixtures to savour and the presence of Dunboyne in the last four adds a sense of novelty, as Mourneabbey, Kilkerrin- Clonberne and Donaghmoyne were all semi-finalists back in 2019. Dunboyne will travel south armed with the services of Wall, the 2021 TG4 Senior Player's Player of the Year, and Duggan, scorer of 1-2 in Meath's famous TG4 All-Ireland Senior Final victory over Dublin last September. Both players were also honoured with All Stars on the back of a stellar campaign and they'll renew acquaintances with the likes of Eimear Meaney, Ciara O'Sullivan, Doireann O'Sullivan, Bríd O'Sullivan and Máire O'Callaghan, who featured for Cork against CURRENTACCOUNT.IE ALL-IRELAND CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE the Royals in the All-Ireland semi-final. In the currentaccount.ie All-Ireland Intermediate championship, the road to glory begins with a quarter-final between Leinster champions St Sylvester's (Dublin) and British champions Holloway Gaels (weekend January 8/9). St Sylvester's can call upon Dublin players Sinéad Aherne, Niamh McEvoy, Nicole Owens and Kate Sullivan as they plan an assault now on All-Ireland glory. The winners will advance to play Ulster champions Kinawley (Fermanagh) in the semi-finals on the weekend of January 22/23, with Munster champions Castleisland Desmonds (Kerry) up against Connacht champions Castlebar Mitchels (Mayo) on the other side of the draw. And in the Junior grade, Leinster champions St Judes (Dublin) will play British champions Tír na nÓg (Yorkshire) in the quarter-final on the weekend of January 8/9, with Ulster winners Carrickmacross (Monaghan) awaiting the winners at the semi-final stage (January 22/23). In the other semi-final, Munster champions Mullinahone (Tipperary) will take on Connacht representatives St Brendan's (Galway) in the semi-finals (January 22/23). The currentaccount.ie All-Ireland Senior Club Final is fixed for the weekend of January 29/30, with the Junior and Intermediate Finals due to be played on the following weekend (February 5/6).
