NEWS & SHORTS www.ladiesgaelic.ie | WINTER 2021 | 5 LGFA Encourages players onto Coaching Ladder T he Ladies Gaelic Football Association will hold its fourth Coaching Development Programme (CDP) for current or past inter-county players on Saturday 29 th January 2022. This course facilitates players as they begin to take their first steps on the coaching ladder. The LGFA Inter-county Level 1 Coaching Programme will see players that have a minimum of three years experience at adult inter-county level be given the opportunity to attain a Level 1 Coaching qualification without having to complete the LGFA FUNdamentals course that is mandatory for other aspiring coaches. Following completion of the CDP, these successful applicants will be able to proceed to the Level 2 coaching course, the highest level of coaching qualification available within the LGFA. The Introduction of the CDP, is designed to attract players who have gained a wealth of experience on the field into a coaching career. Some of the players that took part in the programme included former stars like Dublin's Denise Masterson as well as current All Ireland winner and All-Star Meath's Máire O'Shaughnessy. Speaking about the new Coaching Development Programme, LGFA President Mícheál Naughton said: 'This LGFA Inter- county Level 1 Coaching Programme for Experienced Players provides players with a great opportunity to fast-track their coaching careers. We want to see more of our great players progress through to the top level of coaching. ' Speaking about the initiative, facilitator on the day, Liam Moggan, said: "Coaching is primarily about helping people. experienced players are in a special place as role models to fit that role. Experienced players need help to perfect coaching skills and to look and see the game and its players in a different light." To apply for this unique programme please contact William.harmon@lgfa.ie. ACCELERATE YOUR JOURNEY PREPARATION AS A MINOR COUNTY PLAYER T he Ladies Gaelic Football Association was delighted to announce a new series of webinars in association with ZuCar, our Performance Partner, titled 'Accelerate Your Journey... Preparation as a Minor County Player.' This series was designed specifically for players on minor county panels for 2021 or 2022 and provided them with an opportunity to interact with some of the current stars of our game. The series was hosted by former All Star and Armagh captain Caoimhe Morgan and covered a number of topics with special guests each sharing their own journey and stories to county adult level. The webinars had a great turn-out and were the first of their kind developed by the LGFA. The three topics covered were below • Emotional and Physical Preparation as a County Player with Emma Duggan (Meath) and Laura Ahearne (Galway) • Communication and Creating a Support Network with Laurie Ryan (Clare) and Lyndsey Davey (Dublin) • Nutrition and Anti-Doping with Tiarna Grimes (Armagh) and Mary Hulgraine (Kildare). We would like to thank all the players for logging in and hope they will use the tools and practical tips from the players to accelerate their LGFA journeys going forward. We also want to express our gratitude to our county stars for sharing their advice and expertise with our aspiring players.
