34 | WINTER 2021 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie LEADING PROVINCIAL FEMALES MUNSTER CHLOE LAMBERT Why did you get involved in the programme? Having a P.E. and Coaching degree, I wanted to broaden my existing knowledge within coaching and specific to Ladies Gaelic Football. I want to get more involved within the LGFA and also within my own club, I knew this programme would give me the tools and information to do this. What has been the best thing about your involvement in the programme? Getting to know new people with the same interests. Learning from the other participants. Hearing their stories, experiences, their point of views on particular topics and a different perspective really helped me learn more. What have you learned most from your involvement in the programme? The presentations that are given to us at each meeting are full of information, some aspects are thought- provoking. For example, different scenarios and approaches that I would never really have thought through or linked to coaching. The programme content and meetings really have heightened my awareness of what goes on "behind the scenes" and how to deal with them in the best possible manner. Has the programme changed how you approach your own involvement in ladies football? Yes, I am analysing what our club has and hasn't and looking at different aspects and areas we can improve on to help encourage our girls coming up and in the future. I wouldn't know where to begin but this programme has changed how I view our own club, our own girls and make their experience of ladies gaelic football memorable, encouraging and motivating in an environment which in turn may reduce dropout rates in the future. ULSTER DONNA McCRORY Why did you get involved in the programme? The programme was recommended to me as a great learning 'classroom', where you could chat about your experiences and get solutions. I wanted to learn from other people's challenges and bring their knowledge and positives to my role. Every day, we're faced with different dilemmas and problems and answers aren't always easily obtained but with different conversations, remedies can be found. What has been the best thing about your involvement in the programme? It has been great to meet people from other counties and share our experiences in different break-out groups, allowing us to hear how everyone dealt with similar issues. What have you learned most from your involvement in the programme? I have learned not be so hard and critical of myself. Has the programme changed how you approach your own involvement in ladies football? Yes, it has taught me that I need to not take things too personally when being criticised and sometimes you just have to let things go and move on. The programme allowed the gathering of different skills needed to run our ladies football in our counties and gave us the opportunity to listen to others and learn from people that we didn't know before and forge new friendships and new sounding boards when needed. I would thoroughly recommend the programme.
