www.ladiesgaelic.ie | WINTER 2021 | 11 INTERVIEW next year. It's not that underdog tag next year, it's like we're in Division 1, we'll be in senior again. It's every game. I don't think it's hard to find something you have to prove, whether it's to yourself or your team. I don't think we will be short of any motivation anyway. "You love the underdog tag but it is equally as enjoyable to be in the position we're in now. You work to get there and people are trying to knock you off the top but that's not a bad position to be in either." And after the most dramatic 12 months, and with a team holiday hopefully on the horizon – if Covid-19 restrictions don't put paid to their opportunity to get away – Wall is also looking forward to finally spending time at home with her family. She is doing a Masters in Digital Marketing at DCU and is excited about the quiet time around the corner. "I am not living at home at the moment so it will be nice to go home at Christmas for a week or so and spend some time together," said Wall. "We're a busy house in that we don't spend a huge amount of time altogether at the same time, someone's in, someone's out. It will be nice to sit down together." I don't think I have had time to reflect on it just yet. "It is still riding the wave. Seeing eight of us is outrageous. It was so good. Even having all of us there, with our families and stuff like that, it was great. "I was shocked by my Player of the Year award too. That was something I definitely wasn't expecting. It was huge." In 12 months, Wall went from winning the 2020 TG4 Intermediate Players' Player of the Year to the senior equivalent. It was unprecedented, only matched by her county's amazing achievement as they bagged the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate title last year before doubling up with the Brendan Martin Cup. And although Wall recognises it will be difficult to top the success of 2021, she still has plenty of ambition heading into next year. "I wouldn't be setting myself huge goals at the start of the year. I do it throughout the year with small goals. I'm not a New Year's resolution type person," said Wall. "Even last year, every game we played we had something to prove. That is definitely the case Above: Vikki Wall of Meath in action against Vicky Carr of Westmeath.
