54 | SUMMER 2021 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie DEVELOPMENT I n 2019, the LGFA National Development Team reviewed the support available for volunteers and developed the 'Volunteer Support Programme' to provide more in-depth targeted support and contact with County Boards and Clubs over a 3-year cycle. This level of engagement will ensure increased communication and contact with county executives and clubs in the county whilst also ensuring each county has a basic 3-year plan to follow at the end of the process. Now, in year 2 of the 3-year cycle, take a look at how each county has progressed so far: PROGRESS REPORT... VOLUNTEER SUPPORT PROGRAMME ANTRIM – Antrim LFGA has distributed a County Development Survey to all clubs, and are awaiting responses ARMAGH - Armagh LGFA are currently engaging with clubs on their 3-year development plan and are hopeful of putting a plan together in the coming months. CARLOW - Carlow have put a hold on the Development Plan process. They have focused on club and county games in recent weeks and months. OFFALY – A County Development committee has been put in place in Offaly and has met on several occasions so far this year. They are currently reviewing results from the county development survey, which was distributed to clubs earlier in the year and will begin work on formulating a county plan once this is complete. CORK – Cork's Development plan steering group has begun populating sections of their plan. A meeting was held, where all members presented their sections to the rest of the steering group. Following this meeting, certain groups went on to hold further focus groups with coaches, players etc. to better inform their plan areas. SLIGO – A Steering group has been formed within the county. Galway – A steering group was formed within the county in March 2021. WESTMEATH – Westmeath's Steering Group has analysed the county development survey responses from clubs within the county and will have a draft development plan to the county executive in the coming weeks, which will then be presented to the county's clubs. DOWN - Down LGFA has completed an online questionnaire and four very successfully focus groups. The steering committee are now in the process of development and planning based on 5 key areas; Coaching and Games, Growing the game- participation-Schools, Administration and Structure, Referee Development, Communication and PR. The county is hopeful that a plan is ready the executive approval over the summer. WICKLOW – A development committee was formed within the county
