www.ladiesgaelic.ie | SUMMER 2021 | 11 DEVELOPMENT DEVELOPMENT 11 | SUMMER 2021 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie June saw the launch of the new LGFA BUA programme. 34 young women took part in the first phase of the programme. Dublin's Lyndsey Davey, an ambassador for this initiative, will share her thoughts and experiences with the participants during the programme. What is BUA? The BUA programme is a self-development initiative aimed at supporting young people in the Association to develop leadership, life skills and qualities to benefit their communities. The programme will guide participants through expert-led workshops and support personal self-reflection. Participants will then put their enhanced leadership skills into action through a club action project. Learn to Lead Commences Learn to Lead has returned and this time with more new recruits ready to begin their leadership journey. Learn to Lead is a unique programme that was launched in 2019 and it is supported this year by Women in Sport funding through Sport Ireland. The programme was devised to develop the next generation of female leaders within Ladies Gaelic Football. The 2021/2022 course will be delivered once again by experts in the fields of coaching, officiating, administration and PR/Media. There was an incredible response to the LGFA's recruitment drive and the long list of applicants has been whittled down to 24, six in each strand. Over the course of four days and six evenings, diverse leadership skills will be examined, with the focus firmly on developing the skill-sets and techniques required to master each of the four strands. The final list of 24 participants includes leading coaches, officials, administrators and players, representing the four provinces. Day 1 commenced online on the 12 th of June with very excited yet anxious participants but within the first hour everyone was settled in and ready for the day ahead with Niamh McElwain. This day certainly set the tone, with everyone really looking forward to the months ahead.
