T
he Community Midwifery Service is in its
22
nd
year of operation The feedback from
the mothers and families availing of the
service has been incredibly positive. The activity
levels of the service, particularly in the Early Transfer
Home Programme (ETHP) Team were remarkably
high secondary to the COVID-19 pandemic. In
addition, we saw a notable increase in the mental
health needs of pregnant and postnatal women,
and this correlated with the increased number of
referrals to the Perinatal Mental Health Team. We
were delighted to present our key findings in relation
to homebirths at the Annual National Perinatal
Epidemiological Centre (NPEC) Conference at the
beginning of the year.
