54 | SPRING 2021 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie L imerick defender Rebekah Daly tells Declan Rooney how she switched focus from her gym instructor job to starting her own car valeting business, Rebekah's Little Valet, when Covid-19 struck... CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW BUSINESS. HOW DID REBEKAH'S LITTLE VALET COME ABOUT? I started it up when the first lockdown came. I am working in Knocknagoshel Gym as well, but that had to close its doors due to the pandemic. After chatting with a few people, they were encouraging me to start my own business. I am always cleaning my car, so it just came about naturally. It's something I like doing, so I decided I'd set up Rebekah's Little Valet myself. I started committing Monday and Saturday to it and it grew from there. People started contacting me asking would I do their car and I just got more confident at it. I am still doing it, so even when the gyms open up again, I plan to keep it on for the weekends or whatever. I have Instagram and Facebook pages, called Rebekah's Little Valet. My contact details are there for anyone that's interested. HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT SETTING UP? My Dad is a mechanic and he has a big shed so he lets me work away inside there, especially for days when it's raining. So it didn't really cost me anything to get started up, I just pull the car into the shed and I can work away on that there for the day on my own. Dad's car was never too clear either so I don't know where I got that side of it from! I would have watched him at what he was doing, but I'm not too good on the mechanical side of it, I'm more interested in making it look good. I do love cars though. I'm after buying an Audi A4 in January. My focus is on doing it up, I have a few bits and pieces bought for it already, so that's a nice thing to be working towards. GUESS WHAT I DO REBEKAH DALY ARE YOUR COUNTY TEAMMATES GOOD CUSTOMERS? I'd love to get my hands on Aine Cunningham's car, 100 per cent. That car gives me anxiety. It needs a bit of TLC. HOW DIFFICULT HAS IT BEEN FOR GYM WORKERS DURING THE PANDEMIC? It has been pretty tough. I had only just started working in Knocknagoshel Gym when the pandemic came. I was only a couple of weeks in when it closed. It opened up and closed a couple of times due to the Covid restrictions. They have been very good to me, setting my hours to suit my training. It's great to have that support. I'm studying Health and Leisure with PE in Munster Technological University in Kerry. After my second year I qualified as a gym instructor, which allowed me to start working there. It works really well with playing football too, they are very supportive. AS A SOCCER AND CAMOGIE PLAYER TOO, HOW HAVE YOU JUGGLED THE WORKLOAD? I've always played a bit of everything and I love my soccer. We won the treble last year with Abbeyfeale, which was the first time we achieved that as a club. I was thinking that I'd give it up for this year to fully focus on Limerick football. I love playing for the county and that is definitely my number one focus. I am in my last year of college as well so that is keeping me busy too. At least if I end up finishing playing soccer, I left it on a bit of a high. TELL US ABOUT BEING NAMED ON THE 2020 JUNIOR TEAM OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP? That was a huge shock to me, I wasn't expecting it at all. I actually forgot the awards were on and only happened to turn on TG4 for a few minutes. I got some shock from it alright. It was an amazing feeling to be named on that team. It is definitely my greatest achievement playing football. Overall, 2020 went very well for us. We are a very young team. We all knew that at the start and that our goal was just to get to grips with ourselves and get to know each other. We were all focused on improving our own things and we got on really well, although it was a shame to lose out in the All-Ireland semi-final. When we come back together, I don't see any reason why we can't go further this season. There is a lovely atmosphere in there. Once we get back on the field again, I think we'll love it, I can't wait to come back. I am sick of looking at Zoom, I'm not used to that. Caption:
