52 | WINTER 2020 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie SPOT LIGHT It's the time of year again where AGMs are taking place up and down the Country. After a remarkable year for Ladies Football, the work of officers on every County Executive hasn't gone unnoticed. For this edition of Peil, we thought we would catch up with some county officers to give us an insight into their plans for 2021. Name: Sinead Reel County: Armagh Position held: Chairperson How long have you been in the role? If I am successful and the club delegates are happy for me to stay on in the role, 2021 will be my fourth term as County Chairperson. Never one to step on anyone's toes, we are always on the lookout for more help and new voices How will you approach your role in the coming year? After such a strange year in 2020, I feel we need to reach out to all our players at all ages, get clubs back out on the pitch and aim to provide as much football as possible this year. I, alongside a hard-working committee have already plans in place for the development of our underage county squads, fundraising initiatives whilst also working hard on our new training facility McKeever Park. I have also been trying to recruit more volunteers onto our county committee, as the workload seems to be swelling every year and I don't like to think that we are over stretching the current volunteers we have. What do you hope to achieve in 2021? Probably like most counties, success creates a brilliant environment which in turn attracts more participation and more people want to get involved in our sport. Personally, the aim for us as a county is to follow up on the successful year our senior team have had and continue to work on our club structures, behind the scenes, the main aim being new floodlights on McKeever Park What's your hope for your own county in 2021? Personally, I hope our senior team continue the great run they have had in 2020, I look at that team as an extended part of my family, and like most families you just want what's best for them. Our committee will always aim to make the players our main priority and will do whatever is required to let these girls fulfil their dreams. Name: John McDermott County: Galway Position held: PRO How will you approach your role in the coming year? In the coming year I will come up with more initiatives and I will do more workshops, webinars and learn more about photography. I also intend to attend more club games for all ages, take photos of the matches and write reports to share on social media, in order to help promote Ladies Football. What do you hope to achieve in 2021? I intend to get more involved with social media to help promote Ladies Football even better, and to show everyone that Ladies football is as good a sport as any other. What's your hope for your own county in 2021? In 2021 I hope that all Underage and Senior teams can return to play club and county football. Also, a clean sweep for Galway Ladies, U14, all the way to seniors. Name: Rita Brett County: Sligo Position held: Secretary How long have you been in the role? This is my first year in the role. How will you approach your role in the coming year? I will approach my role full of enthusiasm as at the start of every year, we have great hopes for the year ahead. What do you hope to achieve in 2021? As a Volunteer for one of the busiest roles in the executive, I hope that I can do my job to a high standard. What's your hope for your own county in 2021? My own county is Tipp so I hope they win the All Ireland. But, for my adopted county, because this past year was such a strange one, I hope for the coming year we get back to achieving the goals we set out at the beginning of the year.
