ANALYSIS FERMANAGH VS WICKLOW ALL-IRELAND LADIES JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL 2020 5TH DECEMBER STATS AND ANALYSIS TADHG DORNAN @ROCKSOLIDANALYTICS Powered By: KEY ANALYSIS POINTS Against the Odds Despite underperforming on key indicators such as positive turnovers and kick out retention, Fermanagh came out on top, mainly as a result of their goals and consistent free-taking. Attacks and Conversion Both Fermanagh and Wicklow created attacking opportunities, with Wicklow in particular managing almost a shot or placed ball opportunity for every attack they created. These attacking opportunities for Wicklow stemmed from hard-fought turnovers in their defensive third and variability to their kickouts. With that being said, their achilles heel came in the form of placed balls. Three different players, including captain Laura Hogan, tried their hand but they only managed to convert 41.5% of their placed ball opportunities, leaving a possible eight scoring chances behind them. In contrast, Fermanagh's Eimear Smyth was almost flawless from the dead ball, converting four out of the five opportunities that came her way. These scores kept Wicklow at a minimum of a one score distance for entire game. Decision Making Up Front The six Fermanagh forwards made excellent decisions when it came to shot selection in the first half. They rarely ventured outside the vicinity of the "D" to have a shot on goal and this proved vital as they amassed 1-5 from play in the opening 30 minutes. In the second half, Fermanagh's conversion from play plummeted as they missed seven shots from play. However, a goal at the right time and consistent free- taking kept Wicklow at arms length.
