SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW Former Mayo All Star Yvonne Byrne on Dublin, Mayo & Galway Dublin are going for four-in-a-row in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship. The challengers from the West are Galway and Mayo. Looking at the three counties, which team has the potential to go furthest in the competition? Well, under normal circumstances it would be very hard to see past Dublin. They have the experience of winning and momentum behind them. But it is going to be a very different season if it can get started and finished! You don't know what kind of panel will be available to any team for any given game, so anything is possible this season for any team, if you ask me! When assessing the three teams in the hunt for glory, who are the key players we should be looking out for? I think in any team you rely on your leaders to perform well in order to progress in a season. That allows for younger or newer players in the panel to shine. Mayo - Aileen Gilroy & Saoirse Lally Galway - Louise Ward & Lynsey Noone Dublin - Sinéad Aherne & Lauren Magee How do you rate the standard of football in Connacht in recent times? There has always been a great rivalry between Mayo and Galway for as long as I remember, regardless of the standard! It was fierce! I also remember four teams being senior at one stage, which was great for the province. In recent years, you have Mayo and Galway competing in the last four of the TG4 Senior Championship, while Roscommon and Sligo have been competing well at Intermediate, and not far away. Leitrim are probably in a rebuilding phase at this point in time. You could say it's good enough – but I would like to see some silverware to back it up.
