22 | AUTUMN 2020 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie NEW LEAD ANCHOR FOR PEIL NA MBAN BEO 22 | AUTUMN 2019 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie Q : What piece of advice would you offer to an aspiring analyst/ broadcaster? A: I have always been passionate about Gaeilge and sport and it's really important to be confident. To do that, it's necessary to do the research and be well informed. In life, as well as in broadcasting, I think it's crucial to be honest, give your best effort and keep learning as much as you can. Q : And who's given you the best advice during your journey to date? A: Almost ten years ago, Seán Bán Breathnach gave me a great piece of broadcasting advice. 'Mínigh céard a tharla san eachtra agus cén chaoi ar tharla sé, seachas caitheamh anuas ar imreoir áirithe' 'Explain what happened in the incident and how it happened, rather than commenting negatively about a particular player'. I'm also lucky to work with Brian Tyres, who has always been so supportive and given great advice. He leads by example in always adding to his vocabulary and the unique way in which he tells the story of the game. I have my own little notebook of new phrases that I continue to add to and improve. Q : What's it like being part of the TG4 team on big match day? A: It's really special and there is always a great energy on big match day. Páirc an Chrócaigh is incredible. Peil na mBan has brought so many people together to support and celebrate their teams. From a technical point of view, everything flows on the day because of all the preparation from TG4, Nemeton, the LGFA and all the counties involved. Q : How do you see the 2020 TG4 Championships panning out? A: The competition will be fierce. I believe that the hunger and drive will be stronger than ever this year in the current circumstances. The TG4 Championships especially have always been exciting and action-packed. The 20x20 campaign has been very effective in promotion and celebration of women in sport. This marks 20 years of TG4's partnership with the LGFA and I'm looking forward to more of the high standards and skill levels that we saw last year, especially from Galway! 22 | AUTUMN 2020 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie
