4 | SUMMER 2020 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP T he Senior Championship is made up of four groups of three. The four teams topping their respective groups will progress straight through to the All-Ireland semi-finals, with the 1 st team in Group 1 facing off against the Group 2 table- toppers, while the Group 3 winners will play the top team in Group 4. Dublin, Galway, Cork and Mayo – the 2019 semi-finalists – were seeded for the Senior draw. GROUP 1: CORK, CAVAN, KERRY TWO Munster counties are included in Group 1, alongside Ulster opponents Cavan. Cork will begin the campaign once again as one of the leading contenders for the Brendan Martin Cup, and they contested last year's semi-final against eventual winners Dublin at Croke Park. Kerry's 2019 All-Ireland Championship journey also ended at the hands of Dublin, at the quarter-final stage, after the Kingdom finished second in their qualifier group behind Galway. Cavan were unfortunate to lose out to Donegal after extra-time in the Ulster championship and while the Breffni girls beat Armagh in the All-Ireland qualifiers, they were plunged into a relegation play-off after finishing bottom of their group. Cavan defeated Westmeath comfortably to stave off the threat of relegation and prior to the Covid-19 shutdown, James Daly's charges were well in the hunt for promotion from TG4 SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2020 Group 1: Cork, Kerry, Cavan. Kerry were leading the way with five wins from five in the second tier, with Cork level on points alongside Galway at the head of affairs in the top flight.
