32 | SUMMER 2020 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie REFEREE PROGRAMME T he LGFA are pleased to announce the National Referee Accelerate Programme for 2020/2021 and for the first time we will have a 7-module programme that is blended learning combining both face-to-face and online learning, and of course pitch experience. This is an exciting development and we had a very high number of applications and following the selection process we are pleased to have representatives from each province involved. The programme begins with an online introduction module in July and referees will complete the programme in June 2021, hopefully progressing to the national referee panel. Below is an outline of the modules that the referee will participate in: Module 1 (ONLINE) Physical • Why do you referee? • Physical fitness • Rules • Reflective journal learning Module 2 (ONLINE) Technical • Rules • Application of the rules – decision making (video based) • Rules • Signals (video and theory) Module 3 (ONLINE) Teamwork • Safeguarding training • Role of fourth official, linesperson and umpires National Referee Accelerate Programme Module 4 - Mental - Face to face if possible • Communication skills • Conflict management (scenario based) • Report writing • Nutrition and hydration Module 5 - National Pre-League Referee Day • Rules assessment • Fitness assessment • Introduction to 'buddy system' • Topics for all national referees Module 6 (ONLINE) - Review performance in the Lidl National League • Assessor reports • Review games on video • Rules Module 7 - Conclusion • Feedback from assessments • Preparation for championship • Fitness and rules assessment for sign off • Questions and answers Everyone involved with the accelerate programme are very excited about the new format and can't wait to get started.
