Fitness is a fundamental requirement for refereeing. Fitness is essential for:
• Keeping up with play and positioning
• Making quality and correct decisions, mental alertness
• Maintaining concentration for the full duration of the game.
• Self- confidence
• Avoid fatigue

Mentally prepare for all games -
Referees must leave off the field
matters, off the field.
Treat every
game
equally - your
performance in
the first round of
the league is just
as important as
the county final.
Always do a warm up and stretch
before the game and cool down
after
Do not referee an excessive
amount of games and risk your
performance/decision making
being greatly affected.
Always
evaluate your
performance to
continue your
development as
a referee.
