NEWS & SHORTS 4 | WINTER 2019 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie Coach the Teenager Roadshows As an off-shoot of the very successful Gaelic4Teens initiative, 2020 will see the introduction of a Coach the Teenager Roadshow. The purpose of the roadshow is to try and find solutions or strategies around one question: How do we keep young players involved with and connected to the LGFA? Research has identified key factors that prevent dropout in sport and this roadshow specifically looks at the role the coach plays in keeping players involved in our game. The roadshows will be delivered by our Gaelic4Teens Ambassadors. Full details will be released in January but, for now, keep the following dates in your diary! • Ulster: Thursday 23rd Jan • Connacht: Saturday 8th February • Munster: Sunday 23rd February GFP HEC O'CONNOR CUP 2020 As per usual, competition will be high in the 2020 O'Connor Cup Championship. Two groups of three teams will contest the 2020 competition. Group one includes UCC, QUB and UL, while group two will see DCU, UCD and UU battle it out. The group games will be played on three Thursdays in February, the 6 th , 20 th and 27 th . The top two teams from each group progress to the semi-finals on Friday 13 th March, with the final taking place on Saturday 14 th March. Connacht gave Munster a good challenge in the Interprovincial final but three first half goals from Waterford duo Michelle Ryan and Aileen Wall, and Cork's Saoirse Noonan, put the result out of reach of Con Moynihan's side. In the group stage, Munster had already beaten Leinster and Connacht and they showed no signs of tiredness as Michelle Ryan hit 1-01 early on despite Laura O'Dowd's opening score. Ryan's goal was a beauty – a one-handed catch and a split second turn before burying the ball in the net. Despite excellent saves from Connacht keeper Aisling Tarpey, the Munster attack dominated, winning on a scorline of 4-08 to 0-09. Clare's Niamh O'Dea was awarded Player of the Tournament. Unfortunately, Ulster did not participate in the tournament and Leinster were forced to head home early as defeat to Munster in the opening round and a late comeback from Connacht in Round Two put them out of contention for a place in the final.
