44 | WINTER 2019 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie They will no doubt remain friends until the 2020 event. After all the football was played, the fatigued limbs seemingly got a new lease of life on the dancefloors of the respective clubhouses in what was affectionately described by one observer as resembling the world's largest hen party. As the players left the pitches arm in arm and proceeded to dance the night away, it was very appropriate that for one day they were both a mother, an other, but also a footballer there to be themselves. They were there to play football, despite the fact that most people cease playing sports at a certain age because that's what society or someone tells them to do. In the past, mothers didn't play football. Now they do. In the past, ladies stopped playing football at a certain age. Now they don't. They were there to enjoy themselves as themselves and this was in fact the day's, and the participants', greatest achievement.
