rom the moment the group gathered
in the Celtic Suite on Level 5, you
could feel the energy and positivity in
the room. Gillian Harford, the keynote
speaker, from the 30% club, focused that energy
and drew us all in immediately with her very
personal and emotional story.
Gillian has 38 years experience in HR
and is a strong advocate for advancing
the role of women at senior leadership
and board levels in Irish businesses. In
simply telling us her story she hit on so
many important facets of leadership. In
my opinion, fairness and hard-work really
emanated from Gillian.
She spoke so openly about her family
life, which always ran in tandem with
her working life. Being a working mother
gives her great insight into the challenges
working mothers face and she used
that knowledge in her leadership role to
develop progressive HR policies. Listening
to her speaking about women feeling
the need to be 'perfect' in order to put
ourselves forward, really struck a chord
with the group. It was both humorous
and stark to hear that if there are ten

The penultimate day of our course took place on Saturday 19th October.
The first two days had been so impressive that Day 3 had the weight of
huge expectations on its shoulders. It did not disappoint.
