U17 NATIONAL
ACADEMY
DAY 2019
T
he 2019 National U17
Academy Blitz Day took place
on August 20
th
. 26 teams,
representing 20 counties, made
the trip to the impressive surroundings of
the GAA National Development Centre
in Abbotstown. The U17 Academy Day
has become a very important event in the
LGFA Calendar as it assists with developing
players in the age bracket that is most
vulnerable to drop-out in our sport.
This is the LGFA's sixth annual U17
Academy day, and it was the biggest
and best yet with a whopping 62 games
played over the course of the day. Those in
attendance were treated to a magnificent
spectacle of skill, teamwork, athletic ability
and camaraderie.
The main focus of the day was kept in
perspective - to improve and develop every
player and ensure that all players present
were provided with plenty of opportunities
to play.
Player Focused
Development
All teams played in a series of round
robin games which determined gradings
for the knockout stages later in the day. In
the end it was Kerry, Donegal and Tipperary
that prevailed in the plate, shield and Cup
respectively.
LGFA would like to thank all our
volunteers, referees and coordinators, who
worked hard to ensure that the event ran
smoothly.
We also look forward to seeing many of
these players in action with their respective
Clubs and County teams over the coming
years.
