"The dust has settled now
on our All-Ireland win but
it's still hard to believe. At
the start of season it was
our intention to bring home
silverware, we knew we had a
fantastic panel but most of all
we knew they were prepared to
put in the hard work and they
proved us right and are now
All-Ireland Champions."
LONGFORD MANAGER CAROL MANNING
Summary: Quite the spell for
Longford at underage level. Hot on
the heels of their All-Ireland U16 B
success, the Midlanders clinched an
All-Ireland Minor B title. The trick now
for Longford is to transfer obvious
underage talent to the adult ranks.
This was some game at Duggan Park
in Ballinasloe, in the melting pot until
the closing quarter, before Longford
finally managed to shrug aside the
Rossies. Longford were 1-7 to 0-3 in
front at half-time but they were adrift
late on as goals from Aimee O'Connor
and Oonagh Kelly had Roscommon
in sight of glory. Anna Healy's penalty
was the crucial score as Longford
showed admirable character to wrestle
back superiority of this game – and
add another piece of silverware to the
2019 cabinet.
