www.ladiesgaelic.ie | AUTUMN 2019 | 39 MATCH Match in a Minute SUMMARY: Cork are back on top in the All-Ireland Minor A ranks, following a comfortable victory over Monaghan. Beaten Finalists against Galway last year, Cork avenged that loss by defeating the Westerners at the semi- final stage, before coming up against Monaghan, the county appearing in a first Minor A Final in 20 years. Cork took their time before finally finding a way through the Farney County, and experienced told as the Leesiders were playing in a sixth straight decider. Katie Quirke was superb, scoring 1-7 for Cork, with Fiona Keating adding 2-1, and Faye Ahern a goal. Cork's fourth All- Ireland Minor A title in five years was fully-merited but following a difficult year for Monaghan at senior level, it's encouraging to see that there's talented young blood coming through. "It was very satisfying – and what made it even more special was that we had to fight tooth and nail in every game we played to get over the line. Maybe in the Final, the scoreline flattered us, but it took us a long time to get to grips with Monaghan. The other thing was relief for a lot of the girls – for many of them it was their fourth final but their first time to get over the line. They had lost U14, U16 and minor last year, and it was relief for them." CORK MANAGER JOHN CLEARY
