MATCH Stats Analysis 1. THE DEFENSIVE BATTLE In order to counteract the attacking threat of the opposition both teams employed a very distinctive defensive system. When on the defensive both Dublin and Galway regularly had 12 or 13 players in their own half of the pitch. Both defensive units were ferocious in their commitment to win the ball. Due to the weather, underfoot conditions were challenging and there were more fumbles than usual. This resulted in defenders pouncing on any loose ball. Generally speaking the two defences nullified the opposition attacking threats. With minimal chances presenting themselves it came down to which side converted more of their scoring opportunities.
