NEWS & SHORTS 4 | SPRING 2019 | www.ladiesgaelic.ie On Saturday 22 nd June, clubs from all over Ireland gathered for the culmination of over 9 months of hard work through the LGFA's Club2Gether programme. Club2Gether is an exciting LGFA club development initiative aimed at strengthening club structures. This initiative focuses on developing areas such as volunteer recruitment and retention, governance & officer training, sponsorship and fundraising, games development as well as planning for the future to ensure sustainable structures are in place going forward. The clubs that participated in the programme were; Ballykinlar(Down), Caragh (Kildare), Claregalway (Galway), Erin Go Bragh (Dublin), Garrycastle (Westmeath), Kilcock (Kildare), Rockwell Rovers (Tipperary), St. Brendans (Dublin), St Brigids (Dublin), St Finians (Dublin) and St Marys, Tulsk (Roscommon). Each club availed of free training for their club officers and coaches, resources were also provided to each club to assist with building sustainable structures, and following the programmes end, a basic 2 year plan will be put in place with the aim of increasing the retention rates of volunteers with the overall effect being that clubs can become a more vibrant and active part of tΩe local community. Marie Hickey, LGFA President, presented all successful clubs with their certificates on the final day of the programme. Applications for Phase 3 of the Club2Gether initiative will open shortly and further information can be obtained by emailing niall.mulrine@lgfa.ie The Croke Park/LGFA Player of the Month JUNE: Geraldine McLaughlin (Donegal) McLaughlin was honoured for her recent sparkling form in the Ulster Championship, which contributed to Donegal achieving 3 Provincial titles in a row. The eye catching forward scored, 2-4 in the opening round against Tyrone, 0-14, including 11 from play, in the semi final win over Cavan and a superb 2 – 4 in the Ulster final against Armagh. MAY: Orla Finn (Cork) As Cork reclaimed the Lidl National League Division 1 title Orla Finn gave a player of the match performance in Parnell Park. During the League Finn scored 1-55, her form up front as an attacking threat and a consistent free taker has served Cork well so far in 2019. All Ireland Semi Finals All Ireland Final day in Croke Park is always deemed a great occasion for the LGFA. This year, as a reflection of the growth of the game, Croke Park will host a double header of the TG4 Senior championship semi finals on Sunday the 25 th of August.
