The game, the association and the broadcaster were all very different then. It is a testament to those who had faith in the partnership in 2000 that it has developed and strengthened as both TG4 and LGFA have evolved over the last 18 years. At the launch of the 2018 TG4 Intercounty Championships TG4 announced a further 4 year commitment to LGFA. This will take the sponsorship agreement up to the 2022 season and encompass the 20 years anniversary of the partnership in 2020. The fact that TG4 are a national broadcaster brought such an exciting element to the flagship sponsorship. Since 2000 TG4 have provided a platform upon which the Ladies Football Intercounty scene could be seen. The entire country was able to tune in to see the great games between Mayo and Waterford, the explosion of Cora Staunton as a teenage superstar, the multiple near misses of Dublin and the rise, dominance and consistent excellence of Eamonn Ryan's Cork Squad. Many people would have missed out on so much good sport, and Ladies Football would not have grown as it has if TG4 had not become title sponsors of the Intercounty Championships. TG4 have committed to screening 17 championship fixtures during the 2018 season, beginning on Saturday, TG4 & LGFA continue to evolve as a 4-year sponsorship extension of the Ladies Football Championships is Announced July 14 and running until All-Ireland final day on Sunday, September 16, when the junior, intermediate and senior finals will be screened exclusively live. Across eight weekends, TG4 will bring viewers the very best action from the revamped senior championship, which will be played on a round-robin basis before the eight quarter-finalists are determined. In another example of how TG4 and LGFA enthusiastically embrace the evolution of their partnership they have also announced that a very special All-Ireland final preview show will be broadcast LIVE from the Mansion House on the eve of the finals, Saturday, September 15. This show will not just focus on the TG4 All-Ireland finals however. It will serve as a wider celebration of women in sport, with this fast-paced and fully charged bilingual Entertainment special set to feature a heady mix of music, celebration and entertaining discussion with some very special guests. There has never been a more exciting time in Ladies Gaelic Football than now. Along with the much publicised record attendance at last September's TG4 All-Ireland finals of 46,286, TG4 also confirmed record TV viewing figures of 563,000, standing as a testament to the day's success.
