ladiesgaelic.ie // 55 COACHING CARDS Volume 14 | Issue No 2 | PEIL Summer RATIONALE: Every coaching session needs to have an element of fun incorporated into same. One simple activity that includes all players is all that is required. These activities will also help with identifying the leaders in your group, assist with improving communication, highlights importance of players working together for a common goal etc. Try them out, it be FUN! WHAT DO I NEED TO SET UP THESE ACTIVITIES? Cones, footballs and Bibs Whistle WHAT WILL ACTIVITY LAYOUT LOOK LIKE? See activity layout on the left EXERCISE DRILLS Exercise One Centipede Walk • 5 or 6 players per team • Players sit in a line one behind the other • The player in front holds the ankles of the player behind • The centipede must then make its way across the area without any of the players losing contact with the player behind them • After some initial practice, races may be held Exercise Two Circle Football • 6 to 8 players per team • Players put their arms around each other in a circle, place a football on the ground inside the circle • Aim is to get the ball down the area, around their teams cone, and back without the football coming out of the circle • If the ball leaves the circle then the team must start again • The first team up and down the area wins!! Exercise Three Side by Side • 5 or 6 players per team. You will need 2 or 3 footballs respectively • Players line up side by side • Place a football in between every second players hips • Aim of the game is for the team to go up and down the area without dropping a ball • They're unable to go hands to control the ball Exercise Four Relay • 5 or 6 players per team • Place bibs in a pile approx. 25m from groups • On signal, first player runs as fast as they can to their pile of bibs • When player reaches the bib they put same on overhead, they then run back to group • When arrive back they must take off the bib and give it to the next player who must put it on overhead. They then run out and get another bib and put again overhead and run back to group. • This time players transfer two bibs and so on until all bibs in pile gone • If case you don't have enough bibs (ideally one per player for this to work) then this relay can be done with one bib per group whereby the bib is transferred each time after running out around cone
